Transitions and Admissions
Transition into and through Nursery, into and through our Reception, and finally into Year One are really important. We do our very best to make the transitions as smooth as possible for you and your child.
Our two Reception classes (Strawberry and Mango with up to thirty children in each) are the Reception classes for St Mary & St John Primary School (SSMJ). Children in the Reception classes go on into Year One of SSMJ in the Meadow Lane site. The Reception are sure of a place in Year One because they are already, in effect, on the school roll.
Comper entirely manages the Reception Provision. However, we work closely with the Primary School. The teachers exchange visits and information throughout the school year so that we know about the children and how we can best meet their needs. We arrange 'transition' visits so that the children are familar with the meadow Lane site, building up the experience as we get into the spring of each year. For example, we have Forest School visits to the site used by and near to SSMJ.
How to apply: Reception
If you want your child to go on the aaplication list for SSMJ then you will first need to apply to get a place in Reception. Parents will need to apply separately for a Primary School place in the school year in which your child turns four-years-old. Oxfordshire County Council will send application information to parents in the autumn term.
· Having a place at Comper Nursery School does not automatically entitle your child admission to St Mary and St John Primary School.
· Having a place in Reception, however, does ensure a place in Year One of SSMJ
If your child is given a place in Reception (of SSMJ) then he/she will be able to start primary school from autumn in the year in which they turn 5 years.
Parents have the right to defer the place and thereby keep the child at Nursery, also fulltime, until you want to take up the offer of the primary school place.
